A bit about
I'm Sarah, and I'm an entertainment and culture journalist working within the GTHA.
Growing up in the small rural town of Beamsville gave me an appreciation for community building and independently grown art. Naturally, when I discovered the thriving arts scene in Hamilton, Ontario, I became inspired- so I created Sarah's Hotspot, a blog to highlight my favourite local musicians and artists, many of whom are just getting started.
While studying for my journalism diploma at Mohawk College, I created weekly live music reviews for the school paper Ignite News, which became the bones of Sarah's Hotspot. My experience includes filming Facebook livestream Q&As for Hamilton Health Sciences, freelancing with Hamilton Rising, The Inlet, The City of Hamilton's music blog, Exclaim! Media, Sidedoor Magazine, McMaster's CFMU blog, YourNetwork, and Beyond James. I've interviewed internationally award-winning artist Josh Tiessen, internet celebrity graphic designer Brandon Lepine, Canadian radio legend Alan Cross, and photographed John-Angus MacDonald of The Trews. I've interned for Hamilton's 900 CHML Radio, Toronto's Exclaim! magazine, and Toronto's Sidedoor magazine.
Since graduating with my diploma, I've been regularly posting music and arts based content for local artists, including profiles, single or album release interviews, and promotional pieces for upcoming shows. In 2020 I started a podcast called HOTSHOTS, which led me to creating a spin-off radio show on INDI 101.5 called HOTSHOTS On Air- playing every Tuesday at 7pm EST.
